Jean Vesselle Champagne

Located in the town of Bouzy, who is primarily known for the good quality of the Pinot Noir grape, the small family firm Jean Vesselle was up to the early 20th century known for their production of excellent red wines from Pinot Noir, while the Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier grapes were sold to major manufacturers.

Like many other producers in Champagne, all vineyards in Vesselle Bouzy, which had not been destroyed by the Phylloxera louse, was wiped out of the First World War, due to fighting in the fields. All the vineyards were restored in 1921 and began the production of excellent grapes in 1928 and 1929, which were huge production years. The economic situation made it impossible to sell these grapes, and Jean Vesselle’s grandfather began to produce Champagne himself. Jean Vesselle’s father continued production of Champagne but sold about 30-60% of the grape production. When Jean took over the company, he decided to make Champagne of the whole production of grapes.
